Greenville, NC MSA Ranks High for Business and Careers

GREENVILLE, NC (July 30, 2015) – The Greenville, NC MSA has been ranked in the top 10% on Forbes.com’s list of “Best Small Places for Business and Careers” for 2015. The 17th annual ranking of the Best Small Places for Business and Careers evaluates the 200 smaller U.S. metropolitan statistical areas using various metrics. The smaller metros range in size from 54,500 people in Carson City, NV to 260,400 in Hagerstown, MD.  The Greenville, NC MSA has a population of 175,700. Forbes.com uses data from economic research firm Moody’s Analytics, the U.S. Census, and demographer Bert Sperling. Twelve metrics including job growth, business costs, cost of living, income growth, educational attainment, and projected economic growth are used to determine the rankings.  Quality of life factors are also considered. Business costs and educational attainment are given significant weight in the overall ranking.  The cost of living in Greenville was listed as almost 10% below the national average.  The steady increase in our local high school graduation rates also made an impact on the current ranking. Greenville was also noted for having a wide range of cultural events on and off the East Carolina University campus. Forbes is a leading source for reliable business news and financial information.
