North Carolina is a leader in agricultural production.  The State ranks #1 in the nation for production of sweet potatoes and flue-cured tobacco, #2 in Christmas trees, hogs/pigs, foodsize trout, and turkeys, and #3 in cucumbers for processing and fresh market strawberries.  Likewise, NC is also a leader in food processing.  More than $2.8 billion of agricultural products are exported annually from North Carolina.  Pitt County’s traditional agricultural base is still an important part of our local, regional and state economy.
