Vidant Health

In 1998, Vidant Medical Center (formerly Pitt County Memorial Hospital) was transformed from a publicly owned hospital with a mission of regional service to a private, not-for-profit five-hospital regional health care system. The reorganization enabled the hospital and its health system to compete more effectively with other health systems, thus ensuring the availability of high quality care, clinical staff and physicians into the foreseeable future.

Today, Vidant Health is one of the largest health systems in North Carolina.  It consists of eight hospitals serving 29 counties and 1.4 million people in eastern North Carolina and provides comprehensive, leading-edge services that cover every aspect of health care. The system also includes physician practices, home health, hospice, wellness centers and other health care services. Vidant Health is the largest employer in eastern North Carolina with 12,561 employees (2013).
