Performing Arts -ECU

Performing arts enthusiasts can enjoy many student, faculty and guest artists performances at East Carolina University.

The S. Rudolph Alexander Performing Arts Series stages world-class attractions. More than 400 artists, including Chris Botti, Natalie Cole, Lily Tomlin, Yo Yo Ma and the London Philharmonic have taken the stage in Wright Auditorium since the program began in 1962.

Family Fare, a series entirely for elementary-aged children, supports literature-based titles while grooming future arts audiences.

The School of Music’s flagship ensembles include the Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, Chamber Singers, Jazz Ensemble and University Chorale. These groups present concerts throughout the community during the academic year. ECU Opera Theater presents two fully-staged productions annually. The NC New Music Initiative, the Four Seasons Chamber Music Festival and several other offerings host musicians at the pinnacle of their careers to teach and concertize.

The School of Theatre and Dance, presenting as the ECU Loessin Playhouse, stages five productions annually in McGinnis Theatre.  Student, faculty and experimental work is presented in the Archie R. Burnette Jr. Studio Theatre.  Productions from the school regularly grace stages in venerable theatres in Goldsboro and Washington.

Student Involvement and Leadership’s Student Activities Board host two annual concerts.  A homecoming event typically is held in Minges Coliseum. In the spring, students celebrate with attractions and live music during Barefoot on the Mall.
